National Volunteer Week 2018

Giving back is at the core of who we are at Pilot Flying J. The spirit of philanthropy began with our founder, James A. Haslam II, when we began in 1958. Mr. Haslam often says, “To whom much is given, much is required.” Throughout our 60 years of business, we have remained steadfast in our commitment to serving not only our guests, but also the communities in which we live.

This year, we celebrated National Volunteer Week by serving organizations in our Knoxville community through volunteer projects. In collaboration with area organizations, Pilot Flying J Team Members had the opportunity to address real community needs by volunteering their time during normal work hours. Team Members chose projects like landscaping at Zoo Knoxville, washing vases at Random Acts of Flowers, writing thank you letters at JDRF of East Tennessee, painting at Knoxville YWCA and making super hero capes for East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. By the conclusion of the week, our Team Members volunteered a total of 1,050 hours at 20 different area organizations.

“Pilot Flying J has always believed in supporting our Team Members and inspiring them to build stronger communities by giving back,” said Meg Counts, Community Relations Manager and Event Planner at Pilot Flying J. “That was the purpose of the week and I believe we succeeded in that mission.”

We’d like to thank our Team Members who volunteered their time to serve one of the 20 organizations during our week of giving. Each hour volunteered made a positive impact in our community and furthered the spirit of giving that has been a part of who we are from the very beginning.
