By definition, a true Road Warrior is a professional driver who goes above and beyond their duties, Chris Hogg does this each and every day.
Chris has been driving for 19 years. When he’s not on the road, he’s a community hero – volunteering for his local fire and police departments in Coahoma, Texas.
When Chris he was a boy, his house caught fire and ultimately burned to the ground. Amidst the flames, volunteer firefighters came to his family’s rescue and helped put the fire out. For the longest time, Chris couldn’t understand why someone would risk their life for complete strangers.
“I wondered why they would do that – they dropped what they were doing and came running,” Chris said. “Growing up, I felt like I owed them something, and the only way I thought I could sufficiently pay them back would be to pass along what they did for me to someone else. I wanted to be able to help someone in the same way they helped me.”
Chris is living up to his word and has been a volunteer firefighter for more than 20 years. He said people often ask him why he would do extra work for free.
“I don’t get paid in money, but when a homeowner comes up and shakes your hand, or gives you a hug and says ‘thanks for being there,’ that’s a big check,” he said. “Knowing that something you did made a difference makes it all worth it.”
Because of his experience as a volunteer firefighter, Chris was able to use his experience on the road when he witnessed a pickup truck fall off an overpass ahead of him. Chris helped the motorists until emergency responders arrived while another motorist redirected traffic around the accident site, thankfully no one was hurt.
“When I retire, or if I ever win the lottery, I want to be a professional volunteer,” Chris said.
