Celebrating Our Interns on National Intern Day

One of the benefits of working at Pilot Company is the opportunity for career growth, including through our internship program. We strive to provide the groundwork for interns to achieve exceptional careers and to participate in unique experiences that interns don’t receive anywhere else.

Our interns work in many departments across the company, including marketing, finance, supply chain and HR. While COVID-19 changed so much for everyone, we adjusted by offering flexible internship opportunities. Depending on the department and individual, our interns were either completely work-from-home, hybrid or at the office full time. Not only did this give them flexibility to work in the way that best fits their needs, but it also gave them exposure to working in a hybrid environment which more businesses are evolving toward as a result of the pandemic.

Every intern is given the opportunity to work on projects that impact their department, as well as the company, and receive valuable feedback from senior leaders. They also participate twice weekly in professional development activities with Pilot’s Talent Development team, with topics that include resume building best-practices, LinkedIn profile tips, interview coaching, and more.

During the program, interns have exploratory interviews with corporate recruiters to discuss possible career paths, explore opportunities for full-time positions, and learn more about the 12-month, full-time rotational development program which interns are strongly considered for once graduating college. By providing interns with this in-depth experience and professional development, we hope to fuel future leaders, wherever their career takes them.

To celebrate National Intern Day, we asked a few interns to share their experiences from their time with us this summer and anything valuable that they learned throughout the process that will fuel their journeys moving forward.

Hear more below from John, Dixie and Matt!

John Morrow, Digital Marketing Intern:

“When I accepted an internship at Pilot, I knew that I would learn a lot about a large corporation and that it would be of great benefit to my future career. What I did not know, and certainly did not expect, was the incredibly collaborative culture that is prevalent at Pilot, and how friendly and welcoming the atmosphere is. As the Digital Marketing intern, I have benefited from the commitment of all the surrounding divisions working towards a common goal and encouraging me to participate in their meetings, luncheons, and social gatherings. I truly feel like I am a part of Pilot Company and have grown tremendously from my experience here.”

Dixie Colley, Communications Intern:

“I was anxious about beginning an internship during the chaos of the pandemic, but the Communications Department welcomed me with open arms. I have completed numerous projects that have impacted the company and gained a newfound sense of confidence that I know will translate into my future endeavors. In my opinion, the people make the place. In that case, Pilot is one of the best places that I could imagine working.”

Matt Bradley, Accounting Intern:

“This experience has been incredibly unique. Not only have I received the benefits of working from home, as well as in the office, but have had the opportunity to work within multiple departments. Working with Corporate Accounting and Fuel Accounting has allowed me to receive great insight into multiple sides of the business and participate in meaningful projects that add value to the company. Additionally, I attended a Return to Office dinner with the Finance Department and CFO, as well as golfed with the Director of Accounting. I couldn’t imagine a more encouraging, inclusive environment.”

We are so grateful for all of our interns and look forward to seeing the amazing places they will go. These bright individuals have made a lasting impact on our company. Happy National Intern Day!
