Summer Intern Series: Creative

The summer is flying by and our interns have been working very hard!

The interns this week make up our creative departments: Merchandising, Communications, Digital Innovation, Creative Services and Brand Marketing. We asked them what is the best advice they have received during the internship so far. Here is what they had to say:

Adysan Dunn College of Charleston

Creative Services

The best advice I have received from Pilot Flying J is to not be afraid to ask questions and be encouraged to voice my unique perspective.

Colin Deady University of Wisconsin, Whitewater

Merchandising

The best advice that I have received is to always ask questions, especially if I am unsure of something. No question is a bad one.

Julia Lavrinovich University of Tennessee, Knoxville

Brand Marketing

The best advice I’ve received during my internship so far is to ask a lot of questions and to use my voice. It’s not about knowing everything, but more about being curious, eager to learn, and asking smart questions. Simply being engaged in conversations and not being afraid to bring ideas to the table will go a long way and will take me far beyond than even just what this summer internship has to offer.

Katherine Zacapa Canizales Maryville College

Merchandising

The best advice I have received so far is to never be afraid of asking questions. No question is a dumb question.

Molly Smith University of Tennessee, Knoxville

Digital Innovation

The best advice I have received is to take every opportunity that you can to learn and to step out of your comfort zone, because that is how you grow.

Ryan Whitefield University of Tennessee, Knoxville

Merchandising

The best advice I have been given so far is to ask a lot of questions! A lot of the things I have been doing so far are things I don’t have a ton of experience with, but everyone I work with has been very helpful. It’s better to ask for help and do something correctly, than to struggle on your own and have a bad final result.

Samantha Monnig University of Tennessee, Knoxville

Communications

The best advice that I have received is to become an expert at being resourceful. The best way to be resourceful is to ask questions and stay engaged. I’ve learned so much about the Communications department and Pilot Flying J, by doing those two things.

Good luck to these interns throughout the summer! In case you missed it, be sure to check out last week’s blog on our Finance interns.
