Last month kicked off our sixth year raising funds for the American Heart Association Life is Why Campaign. Thanks to the overwhelming support of our team members and guests, we had record-breaking donations at our stores and through our new eGift Cards, totaling in at $1,773,232 – our largest donation year yet! While we’re proud to support the American Heart Association during American Heart Month, we know a healthy lifestyle extends much further than 28 days.
It’s important we continue to practice an intentional, heart-healthy lifestyle throughout the year, one that recognizes the importance of gratitude and how it can play into our health. Read the following tips from the American Heart Association and how being thankful can make an impact on your heart year-round:
How Gratitude Can Help Your Health
Gratitude is such a buzz word right now, but did you know that gratitude is good medicine? A regular gratitude practice can make you healthier and lead to better mood, better sleep, lower blood pressure, and improved immune function. Who doesn’t need that? I know that I sure do!
After almost two years of being overwhelmed by the pandemic, sometimes it feels like you can’t catch a break. Is your child’s school closed again? Can’t seem to catch up at work? Someone cut you off at the check out counter at the grocery store? UGH!Starting a gratitude habit repeatedly can lead to a grateful heart (and a happier, healthier you!)
Try these tips:
Pair it up Do your gratitude right after something else you do every day, like brushing your teeth or eating lunch. This makes the habit stick.
Jot it down Grab some paper or a notebook you already have, nothing fancy. Then, just write down anything you feel grateful for.
Soak it in Savor those grateful feelings and feel good about yourself. If you enjoy your new habit, you’re more likely to stick with it!
Maybe you’re saying, “I don’t know what to be grateful for!” It doesn’t have to be Thanksgiving-level to count. Focus on anything simple like:
- For the clouds
- For my heart that keeps beating
- For my friend
- For this sandwich
- For this day
Let’s do this and give thanks with a grateful heart!
