Happy National Intern Day

After a summer full of hands-on learning, professional development, projects and, of course, fun activities, our interns are in their final week of the program and we are ready to celebrate their achievements with National Intern Day.

It has been a great summer with an incredible class of more than 50 interns bringing their best and freshest ideas, skills and enthusiasm to our team. We’ve enjoyed watching them grow personally and professionally with their peers and send our best wishes to them as they return to school or start their new careers.

To recognize all of their hard work this summer and to celebrate National Intern Day, our interns will be treated to a surprise party with food trucks, photo booth, games, giveaways and more.

We also look forward to hearing their ideas as they present their summer projects to our leadership team today. They have collaborated with their peers across departments and even across the country with their operations teammates, to learn about the business and develop creative solutions that will enhance our team and guest experience. We greatly value their work this summer and the lasting impression they will leave as they embark on their next journeys.

Before we conclude for the summer, we asked our Operations and Support Center interns what they learned about our store and guest experience and key takeaways from their time with us.

Here is what they had to say:

Eric Villasenor, Valparaiso University, Operations

This internship has been a huge learning experience about Pilot Flying J, and I have learned how important our guests are. For that reason, we strive to make each of our guest’s day a little brighter than before. The friendliness within the Pilot Flying J Travel Centers is through the roof, and as an intern I have never felt more welcomed somewhere.

Madelaine Bayless, University of Tennessee, Operations Support

The level of work and coordination involved in providing our guests with a high quality experience at our stores is truly remarkable. With our stores genuinely being our guest’s home away from home, quality is crucial, and every friendly greeting and clean restroom certainly makes a difference.

Dalton Maddox, University of Tennessee, Project Management

I would have to say that the biggest takeaway that I have gotten from my PFJ internship experience is that it takes a combination of different specialists, departments, and people in order to really be successful.

Lauren Sisco, University of Tennessee, Restaurant Support

My biggest takeaway from my internship at Pilot Flying J has been how truly special it is to be an intern. Pilot Flying J values their interns and gives them meaningful, real projects, making us feel important and invested in. I have learned so much here, not just about business but also about culture and communication.

Thank you to our interns for an amazing summer and Happy National Intern Day!
