As the rewards program made for drivers, we spoke with a few of our team members who were part of making the myRewards Plus appTM to better understand the thought and details that went into the app, their favorite features, and what it’s like to be an innovator at Pilot.
Steven Root, Director of Loyalty CRM
What inspired you to update the app to myRewards PlusTM?
The loyalty team spent quite a bit of time developing the new loyalty-tiered fueling program. We wanted to create something different from other programs out there. We asked ourselves, “How can we get drivers more points, and earn them faster, than other programs?”
A lot of the features that we add to the app come from professional driver recommendations, ideas, and conversations about life out on the road. We love to get feedback directly from the drivers to see how we can make things better. Last year, we launched a points promotion as a special thank you to professional drivers for their hard work to deliver goods and keep the country moving through the pandemic. We did extensive testing of the different features of the program and received great feedback. The response was so positive that we decided to make it a permanent pillar of the rewards program.
Now, myRewards PlusTM, drivers don’t have to wait until next month to earn more. After only six fills, drivers can hit four points per gallon when they activate in the app.
It’s fun to see an idea come to life. We really appreciate the tough job that professional drivers do and we love to work on projects like this. Our team has an exciting and important role to always be thinking of new ways to reward drivers and make their jobs a little easier.
What motivates you to continue to innovate?
Pilot is an extremely innovative company. We are constantly looking for new ways to utilize technology to make it easier to shop with us and to deliver a better in-store and on the road experience.
The best part of my role is trying to solve the next problem or create a new way to take better care of our guests. We are always thinking about how to leverage the myRewards PlusTM program along with new technology tools to deliver a great guest experience across our family of brands.
Ba’Carri Johnson, Digital Product Manager II
What do you want people to know about the myRewards PlusTM app?
Everything! The team has worked so hard to get myRewards PlusTM up and running and out into the world. So much thought and innovation have gone into the app, and truly every feature is there to make guests’ lives easier while on the road or in our stores.
We thought through every issue that a guest may run into. We wanted to provide a way for guests to plan ahead, make smart, efficient decisions, and be rewarded every step of the way.
Whether it’s a professional driver that needs to reserve a parking spot or shower or utilize mobile fueling, or a driver looking for good deals while on a road trip, all aspects of the app provide conveniences that ultimately, gets them back on the road faster.
We always have our eyes and ears open for the pain points our guests are dealing with and then looking for ways to address them and alleviate those issues. We will continue to listen, innovate, and update the app to create a better experience.
What motivates you in your job?
One of the best parts of my job is being able to try new things and be creative in solving ways to make the experience better for our guests using technology. There are so many opportunities to grow and learn at Pilot. There is no shortage of creative and innovative work you can do. It’s up to you how far you will go, and I love that about my job.
I also love our small, yet mighty team. We truly feel like a family, and we are all working towards the same goals.
Ryan White, Supervisor of UI/UX Design
Tells us about how the team came up with the current app offerings. How will you continue to develop those?
Feedback is so important to continue to innovate and provide a better experience. We did so much listening, learning and testing to make improvements based on feedback from our guests and loyalty program members.
Every feature in the app is designed to make the end user’s life easier. Whether that be a guest stopping by to redeem a daily offer or a professional driver fueling up before continuing on the road, the app is designed with convenience in mind. The app offers so much more than the card.
The last year has also highlighted the need for safe travel, particularly for essential workers like professional drivers. The app provides a safe and easy way to fuel up, reserve showers, or reserve a parking spot – all from the inside of their truck.
Those types of issues are top-of-mind for us as we continue to think about the next features and upgrades to the app.
What is the most exciting part of the work you do?
I’ve been at Pilot for two years, and it has been so exciting to see how the team has grown and all of the amazing opportunities we’ve had to innovate. The roadmap for the next few years is energizing, and we can’t wait to share our new offerings.
Our team also has the unique ability to bring the company vision to life through technological advances, and that makes every day really inspiring.
