One of the sacrifices a professional athlete, such as myself, makes is leaving the house often, surrendering to a life on the road. It isn’t easy.
I’m probably on the lucky end of that because I’m single and don’t have children, but even then I grow to miss the comforts of home when I’m on the road for a race weekend. What my crew has to go through – consider that they spend Thursday to Sunday away from their families – isn’t something I envy. I know those guys miss meaningful moments with their families. I see it. It’s hard for them, I know, but still they persevere because they love what they do.
I know there are professional drivers on the road that do the same thing, and for that, they have my respect.
Bob, my team’s hauler driver, lugs our precious cargo 85,000 miles per year and lives the life that I’m sure is familiar to a lot of the truck drivers out there. Drive, stop, rest, visit a Pilot or Flying J to refuel and drive some more. It’s a grind and the men and women that do it deserve recognition.
