There are 3.6 million professional drivers on our roads and 7.95 million trucking industry workers in the United States.* Every industry relies on professional drivers, including our own.
Because of the importance professional drivers and the trucking industry have on our business and our country as a whole, we have been proud partners of Trucking Moves America Forward (TMAF) since its creation in 2013.
TMAF was established to educate the public and lawmakers on how critical the trucking industry is to America’s economy. The movement includes educational marketing, advertising and public relations activities with industry facts and research, feature stories of professional drivers, safety programs and highway safety information.
Because of these efforts, more Americans have recognized the vital role professional drivers play in keeping our country safe and secure. Support for the trucking industry has increased further through the pandemic, as professional drivers were recognized as essential workers and celebrated for their part in keeping North America moving.
Since its launch, we have donated a total of $3 million to TMAF and Wendy Hamilton, senior manager of operations and support for Pilot Company, serves as a member of the TMAF board. Wendy has a passion for this industry and all those who work in it.
“The men and women of the trucking industry are heroes. They are the heartbeat of our supply chain and we are thankful every day for their dedication to delivering the goods that we all depend on.” – Wendy Hamilton
This year, we are donating $150,000 to TMAF and partnering to sponsor the TMAF branded No. 1 Pilot Flying J Chevrolet in the NASCAR Xfinity Series event at the Michigan International Speedway on Saturday, August 21.
The TMAF logo and the popular #ThankATrucker social media hashtag are included on the car wrap to further educate the public about the trucking industry and demonstrate our support for America’s professional drivers. TMAF’s industry mascot, Safety Sammy, will be featured on the rear of the car waving to the crowd. We are big fans of Safety Sammy!
The August race will lead into our annual Driver Appreciation Month, which we celebrate throughout the month of September, and National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, September 12-18.
Show your support for this crucial industry by using #ThankATrucker on your social media accounts and be on the lookout for more of this content as we head into Driver Appreciation Month and National Truck Driver Appreciation Week in September!
