Over the past fifty-five years, we have grown to become the largest chain of travel centers in North America, and we couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you. It all began with one small gas station and one big dream. Today we have more than 650 locations and 23,000 employees. Let’s take a quick walk down memory lane:
- James Haslam II opened the first Pilot in Gate City, Virginia in 1958
- Jimmy Haslam moved his way into Pilot corporate in 1974
- Pilot bought Lonas Oil Co. in Knoxville, converting almost all the company’s locations to convenience stores in 1977
- Pilot and Marathon enter into an agreement to form Pilot Travel Centers in 2001
- Pilot acquired Williams Travel Centers in 2003
- Pilot Travel Centers and Flying J Travel Centers entered an agreement, officially creating Pilot Flying J on July 1, 2010
- Pilot Flying J ranked No. 6 on Forbes’ list of America’s Largest Private Companies in 2013
