Last year, we made the kick off to summer road trip season official by declaring the Friday before Memorial Day as National Road Trip Day. In fact, we weren’t the only ones that thought there needed to be a national road trip day.
Not ready to hit the road for a long trip? That’s ok! National Road Trip Day will look a little different this year considering the COVID-19 pandemic. But, with a little imagination, we can celebrate the spirit of road tripping – exploration, discovery and connection – to get inspired for when we are ready to get back on the road. After all, a road trip is more about the journey, than just the destination.
Hop in the driver’s seat – whether that’s in a car, on a bike, or even online with a virtual map – and enjoy the adventure. Get inspired to visit new places or plan a road trip to reconnect with old friends. Dust off the memory book and have a laugh thinking back to that unexpected detour.

How are you feeling about traveling this summer?
We did some research of our own to see how the pandemic affected traveler’s mindsets and plans. Overall, 88% of those we surveyed have at least one trip mapped out for summer — and of those, 53% have a road trip planned. Stay tuned to learn more later this week about when, where and why people plan to travel this summer.
